The 2017 Presidential Election took place on July 1st, 2017, to determine the president and vice president for a three-and-a-half year term. Incumbent Movement president Lawrence Jackson was re-elected in a landslide victory, with 84.9% of the vote.
Buildup[edit | edit source]
Jackson formally announced his decision to run for re-election on January 1st, 2017, the three year anniversary date since the 2014 general elections. Because of the incumbent president's widespread popularity, the race was quickly assumed to be over. Polling in the weeks after his announcement showed him receiving roughly 80% support, and the election seemed to become a referendum on his popular support.
