Benjamin Radcliffe (born February 24th, 1958) is a Valorian politician who has served as the 2nd president of Valoria since 2021. Prior to becoming president, Radcliffe served as premier of Boston for four terms, from 2007 to 2021.

Born and raised in Boston, Radcliffe studied at Harvard University, graduating from its law school in 1984. In 1991, Boston Premier Theodore Klein appointed Radcliffe as Provincial Attorney, a capacity in which he would serve for the next six years. In 1997, Radcliffe ran his first successful electoral campaign, becoming mayor of Boston. He was re-elected in 1999, 2002, and 2004. In 2007, Radcliffe successfully ran for premier, becoming the first member of the Conference to be elected to provincewide office in Boston since 1984. He was re-elected to the Boston premiership three times, in 2010, 2014, and 2017. In 2021, Radcliffe defeated incumbent vice president Matthew Martin to the Executive Mansion, assuming office on February 1st, 2021.

During his presidency, Radcliffe has dealt with the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and orchestrated the Valorian response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the 2023 Israel-Hamas War. He has served alongside Prime Ministers Julia Anne-Claire, Arthur Reinhardt, and Valerie Minerva.

Benjamin Radcliffe was born on February 24th, 1958, in Boston, Valoria. He grew up in Boston, and studied philosophy at Harvard University, before attending law school there and graduating in 1984. Radcliffe quickly became a distinguished public prosecutor in Boston, renowned for his quick wit and exceptional orating abilities.

Provincial Attorney of Boston (1991–1997)

In 1991, Boston Premier Theodore Klein appointed Radcliffe Provincial Attorney of Boston.

Mayor of Boston (1997–2007)

In October 1996, Radcliffe announced his first run for elected office, declaring his candidacy for mayor. Having made a name for himself as Provincial Attorney, Radcliffe won the election.

Radcliffe was elected to his first term as Premier of Boston in 2007, assuming office on May 1st.

Radcliffe assumed office on February 1st, 2021. At the ceremony, outgoing president Lawrence Jackson offered Radcliffe his wristwatch, as a nod to the prime ministerial tradition of outgoing prime ministers bestowing their successors a golden pocket watch. Radcliffe accepted the watch and wore it as he delivered his inauguration address and throughout the rest of the ceremony. He has not worn it in public since then.

Public Image

Radcliffe is widely regarded as a political anomaly, having consistently won elections in Boston, a progressive-leaning province, despite his conservative positions. According to historian Lewis Ogden, this unique ability has played a "major role" in Radcliffe's "political stardom," as he is "capable of completely erasing a significant part of the national Movement voterbase with just his name." Political analyst Herman Wagner has described Radcliffe as "a political superweapon—the Conference's most valuable asset."

Others have denounced Radcliffe's ambition and tendency to consolidate power once in office. During Radcliffe's first presidential campaign in 2020, historian Lucy Aleman warned of Radcliffe:

His election would set Valoria down a dangerous path. After the years of work that were necessary to move past the damage and downfalls of the monarchy, a Radcliffe presidency threatens to undo everything. His history as premier of Boston has clearly demonstrated his willingness, and even active desire, to consolidate power whenever the occasion presents itself.
